Menswear influence ...

Somehow the approach of Fall has me thinking of the influence of menswear in interior decor. I guess the season just appeals to my masculine side (hey, if men have a feminine side, us ladies must have a hidden masculine nature, too.)

So, hurrah for pinstripes and wool, leather and plaid, tailored lines and tempered colors.

Sarah's House is one of my favorite design shows on HGTV. If you've watched the show, you know Sarah's design partner and decorator, Tommy Smythe. He transformed his tiny apartment (above) in dark, masculine tones perfectly. Love his style!

Above, pinstripes in Beau Brummel's house in London (left) and plaid in the home featured in The Adventures of Tartanscot (right) are menswear standards used to style a gentleman's bedroom.

Not every room necessitates dark, brooding wall color to create a masculine look. The rooms above and below are light and airy, each with a distinct personality that reflects a man's aesthetic.

Earth tones are soothing companions a man's space.

It would be great fun to create tabletops that are no fuss, no frill and all appealing to men!

Let's show some love for our guys and the menswear influence in interior design!
