Dîner en plein air ...

Repeat after me, "As the weather was so nice, we decided to eat dinner al fresco." Il faisait si beau que nous avons décidé de dîner en plein air. I believe I've said this more than a dozen times in the last few weeks, well not in French, but it does have a nice ring to it!

If only I could open the door to my garden and see this, I promise I would invite you to dine with us.

Early spring weather has me spellbound with flowers emerging and temperatures in my perfect comfort zone. So, I'm planning our next soiree for late March or early April.

The photo above reminds me of our soirees under our pergola.  We abut several tables and line up the guest placesettings. Mind you, we keep our soirees to 12-14 guests to keep everything manageable.

I'm always on the lookout for new dining ideas: floral arrangements, tablescapes, linens, etc. Since many friends are repeat dinner guests, I want to make sure each visit here is unique in some way.

I change up the theme, menu and table design with each soiree, but always host our gatherings outside. Generally, my husband and I entertain in this way each spring and autumn when the weather is most comfortable for dining en plein air.

Last year, we had to skip entertaining entirely due to work commitments and renovations to our house. That hasn't stopped our friends from asking when we will host our next soiree. I'm so thankful they enjoy our little dinner parties as much as we do.

Now, I just need to select a date and be inspired by these lovely images of tres chic tabletops for our next event.
