So many settings look great simply because fabulous dishware sets the tone. Decorative plates are a great foundation on which to build a thoughtful tablesetting.

But, what to do when there are just plain plates and little cash for a centerpiece? There are so many creative ideas for setting a Thanksgiving table using garden vegetables, gourds, berries, nuts and, of course, fallen leaves and autumn flowers.
Pretty trays and cake stands can be called into holiday service to host table centerpieces as shown above. Images via Hairstylist JM (left) and Blomsterverkstad (right). Below, glass vases can do double duty to perfectly display seasonal elements and candles.

I love little finger bowls filled with mixed beans or corn kernels to host votive candles. When guests move these from their plates, these tea lights move to the table center for a dose of sparkle.

That white plate may start out as Plain Jane, but with seasonal elements and layers of fall color in napkins and centerpieces, holiday tables provide a grand presentation.
