Thanksgiving table decorations ...

It's time for me to start working on our Thanksgiving table decorations and dinner plans. This year, our daughter is preparing our little feast, so all I have to do is make the table look its best and consider some worthy drink recipes for refreshing apertifs and wine selections to accompany dinner.

So many settings look great simply because fabulous dishware sets the tone. Decorative plates are a great foundation on which to build a thoughtful tablesetting.

But, what to do when there are just plain plates and little cash for a centerpiece? There are so many creative ideas for setting a Thanksgiving table using garden vegetables, gourds, berries, nuts and, of course, fallen leaves and autumn flowers.

Pretty trays and cake stands can be called into holiday service to host table centerpieces as shown above. Images via Hairstylist JM (left) and Blomsterverkstad (right). Below, glass vases can do double duty to perfectly display seasonal elements and candles.

I love little finger bowls filled with mixed beans or corn kernels to host votive candles. When guests move these from their plates, these tea lights move to the table center for a dose of sparkle.

That white plate may start out as Plain Jane, but with seasonal elements and layers of fall color in napkins and centerpieces, holiday tables provide a grand presentation.

Now that these photos have inspired me, I'm taking some time to 'play' with a few ideas to share with you next week. Until then ...
