Ivy's best argyle ...

It's no secret that I've had a bit of a life-long crush on argyle. Be it socks or sweaters, argyle makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. So, you can imagine my joy at the resurgence of this Ivy League staple.

Fresh pairings give argyle a modern silhouette. I like the updated look of argyle sweaters belted and layered over dresses, a style that can transcend the seasons.

Cashmere cardigans and v-necks are classic elements in any wardrobe. The looks above are as timeless today as they were 50 years ago. Images via Lands End (left) and Crashing Red (right).

You know argyle communicates a modern tempo when the hip hop culture embraces the style, too. In the photos above, Kanye West and 50 Cent rock the look.

I am seriously loving the pattern on Anthropologie's laced booties. Send these babies my way to pair with jeans and leggings this winter! Too cute.

Now, I think I'll settle in for a retrospective look at where this love started ...

Author Shosuke Ishizu's prep school chic classic from 1965 is gaining new fans with last year's reprint of Take Ivy (available on Amazon). It's a great dose of nostalgia, a la Mad Men, offering enough argyle print photos to make me happy, too.
